LITTER REPORTING »

Clean Beach and climate

Climate models predict that the average temperature in Finland will continue to rise.
Particularly during the winter months, the amount of precipitation will increase and more often come in the form of rain. During summer months, heavy rainfall will likely intensify to a further extent than average rainfall.
This will result in an increased potential for litter to be carried from streets and paths into the waterways, so it is of utmost importance to ensure that litter does not end up in our natural environment.
The most cost-effective way to keep waters clean is to prevent litter from entering the waterways.

What is the Clean Beach programme?

The purpose of the Clean Beach programme is to tidy up our country’s beaches, collect information about littering on our beaches, raise awareness about the littering situation and facilitate the combining of concrete environmental work and a fun day outdoors.

Clean-up events can be organised by associations, clubs, recreational groups, schools, towns, municipalities, companies and private persons – in other words, anyone and everyone!

Here’s how it works:

  1. Gather your own team.
  2. Mark the beach to be cleaned on the map above.
  3. Spend a great day at the beach participating in a clean-up event.
  4. Report all the litter you find to us.
  5. Dispose your waste correctly.
